Cytological spectrum of lymph node lesions in fine needle aspiration cytology

Background: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is becoming preoperative method of choice for diagnosis and management various lumps lesions since few decades. It helps clinician to decide mode treatment in most cases both non-neoplastic neoplastic disorders. As cervical, axillary inguinal lymphadenopathies are commonly encountered clinical problems, this study, we evaluated the utility FNAC assessment lymphadenopathy. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study done during period between January 2016 December 2019 private laboratory centre affiliated with multispeciality hospital Bhopal Madhya Pradesh. The procedure without radiological guidance palpable lymph nodes axillary, regions. 10ml syringe 23/24-gauge needles were used along plunger procedure. Smears made by standard smearing technique. Slides stained Papanicolaou (PAP), Lieshman Giemsa stain Diff-Quik methods. Ziehl-Neelson (ZN) staining acid fast bacilli wherever required. Results: Total 128 lymphadenopathy assessed. Cervical (77.3%) involved reactive lymphadenitis (34.3%) common on FNAC. Tubercular young adults nonspecific paediatric group. Metastatic carcinomas after 50 years age Conclusions: simple, rapid cost-effective know cause also reliable categorize into reactive, inflammatory, metastatic, lymphoproliferative, avoiding necessity biopsy.
